Index | Interpretation |

Overall index | The higher the score, the better a country’s education policies and practices promote both performance levels and equality in democratic competences. |
Non-system subindex | The higher the score, the better a country’s education policies and practices that are specifically intended to foster democratic competences, such as the citizenship education (CE) curriculum, schools’ pedagogy, CE in teacher training and school ethos, promote both performance levels and equality in democratic competences. |
Performance subindex | The higher the score, the better a country’s education policies and practices promote performance levels in democratic competences. |
Equality subindex | The higher the score, the better a country’s education policies and practices promote equality in democratic competences. |
Policy subindex | The higher the score, the better a country’s education policies practices promote both performance levels and equality in democratic competences. |
Practice subindex | The higher the score, the better a country’s school practices promote both performance levels and equality in democratic competences. |
